2017 ATV Rodeo

Information

  1. Date/ Time: The competition will take place on Sunday, August 20, 2017 at the Gilpin County Fairgrounds. Registration must be completed from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. The competition will begin at 11:00 a.m.
  2. Age: Participants must be 16 years of age or older.
  3. Liability: All participants are required to sign a liability waver on the day of the competition. Once the liability waver has been signed, participants will receive a wristband. Participants must have a wristband to enter the practice or competition.
  4. Restrictions: Contestants must not be under the influence of alcohol or drugs before or during the competition. Contestants in violation of this policy will be immediately disqualified from the competition and will not be allowed to compete.

Competition Rules

  1. All participants agree to compete in a fair manner and follow all of the rules. Unsportsmanlike conduct will not be tolerated.
  2. Superintendents: A panel of superintendents will review all scenarios not covered by the listed rules. All decisions made by the Superintendents are final.
  3. Anyone competing and/or operating an ATV are required to wear a D.O.T. helmet (helmet must be worn at all times while operating an ATV), eye protection (glasses, goggles, face shield), long-sleeved shirt, long pants and closed-toed shoes. Other protective gear is strongly recommended.
  4. Stock and modified machines are allowed. Any tire size is allowed. Paddles, chains and spikes are NOT allowed. Natural aspiration only. No nitrous oxide and no nitro methane may be used. Insurance and registration is highly recommended. ATVs may be inspected at any time and at the discretion of the Superintendents.
  5. Participants may enter more than one class, but may enter each class only once. ATV’s may be used by more than 1 competitor.
  6. The number of participants per class may be limited by the Superintendents.
  7. Operators must stay on their machine during the run; dismounting from the machine terminates the run, unless otherwise instructed in the event description.
  8. ATV’s cannot be ridden outside of the Arena and pits. Speed limit in the pits is 5 mph.
  9. In case of a breakdown, riders are responsible for hooking the towrope to his/her machine; any and all damages incurred when being towed are the sole responsibility of the rider.
  10. We reserve the right to rework the course at any time.
  11. The Gilpin County Fair Coordinators, Superintendents, Committee and its representatives are not responsible for accidents, injury or theft to property. Personal ATV insurance and registration is highly recommended.
  12. Noncompliance with the rules of this event may result in disqualification, expulsion and forfeiture of all prizes.

Prizes: Prizes will be awarded based on the combined times of all designated events. Riders must compete in all designated events to qualify.

Barrel Race

The fastest time running the designated pattern around the barrels. The pattern may be run in either direction. Each barrel knocked over will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification.

Pole Bending

The fastest time running the designated pattern. The pattern may be run in either direction. Each pole knocked over will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification.

Key Hole

The fastest time running the designated pattern. The pattern may be run in either direction. Each tire that exceeds the Key Hole barrier will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification.

Flag Race

The fastest time running the designated pattern. The pattern may be run in either direction. Each barrel or flag knocked over will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification.

Tire Race

Two participants:

  • Driver
  • Passenger sitting on tire being pulled by the ATV

ATV must have a ball hitch or a bumper handle.

The fastest time running the designated pattern. The pattern may be run in either direction. Each barrel knocked over will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification. If the passenger riding the tire falls off, they must re-mount before continuing the pattern. The time will count for both participants.

Obstacle Course

The fastest time running the designated pattern (to be posted the day of the race). Each obstacle not successfully completed will result in a 5 second penalty. Breaking the pattern will result in disqualification. Riders may dismount without penalty.

Obstacles may include:

  • Bridges / teeter-totters
  • Driving over logs
  • One wheeled / banked crawls
  • Weaving / maneuvering
  • Small jumps
