Information

  1. Dates and times:
    1. Pre-enter your item(s) between February 1 and July 1.
    2. Submit your items and Fabric & Fiber Arts Entry Form at the Exhibit Barn (next to the Community Center) from July 8 to July 11 from 8:00am-4:00pm. (If not able to make the above times, please call the Fair Office at 303-582-9106 to make other arrangements.)
    3. View your entry and awards in the Community Center on Saturday from 11:00am-6:00pm and Sunday from 12:00noon-3:00pm.
    4. Pick-up your entry in the Community Center on Sunday, July 14 from 3:00pm-4:00pm. (If not able to make the above time, please call the Fair Office at 303-582-9106 to make other arrangements.)
  2. Divisions:
    1. Adult: ages 18 and over
    2. Youth: ages 17 and under
  3. Categories: classes
    1. Fabric
      1. Quilts
        1. Bedcovers
        2. Art quilt
      2. Other- such as clothing, bags, etc.
    2. Fiber
      1. Knit
        1. Large article- afghan or bed cover
        2. Small article- clothing, doilie, pillow, etc.
      2. Crochet
        1. Large article- afghan or bed cover
        2. Small article- clothing, doilie, pillow, etc.
  • Other- such as handspun yarn, felting, weaving, etc.
  1. Awards
    1. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in each class will receive a ribbon.
    2. 1st place in each category (Fabric and Fiber) will receive a ribbon and their name on the “Champions” plaque.
    3. A “People’s Choice” award will be given to the most popular entry.
    4. A special award, eligible to Gilpin County residents only.

Entry rules 

  1. Participants may enter only 1 entry per class, but may enter multiple classes.
  2. All entries must be submitted and picked up during the times listed above.
  3. Entries may not be removed prior to the pick-up time listed above.
  4. All entries must be completely ready for hanging with the necessary hardware and mounting instructions.
  5. All items must be the handiwork of the contestant. If any article appears to be commercially made it will be disqualified. If the work is from a kit or pattern, this must be listed on the entry form.
  6. Work should be cleaned, free of odors, blocked (if applicable) and neat.
  7. Work may be sold by the contestant but must remain in place until the Fair officially closes at 3:00 PM on Sunday. Items for sale must be tagged with a separate piece of paper stating the sale price, name and phone number of the seller.
  8. The Gilpin County Fair reserves the right to limit entries and/or combine classes.
  9. Gilpin County, Gilpin County Fair and its representatives are not responsible for any loss, damage or injury to any property while on the Fairgrounds.
  10. Gilpin County Fair management does not discriminate on the basis of race, color, sex, age, or other non-merit aspects.
  11. All entries will be judged on:
  12. quality of work
  13. general appearance
  14. suitability to purpose
  15. aesthetics
  16. style, color, design
  17. finish and workmanship
  18. complexity

Fabric- Quilts    Quilts are defined as having three layers—-a top, batting and backing.

  1. Bedcovers- Sizes: King, Queen, Double, Crib, Lap

Techniques:  Whole Cloth, Applique, Modern,                                                                     Traditional, Other

  1. Art quilt- a contemporary artwork of original design involving                       various processes such as dyeing, printing, stitching, embellishing,                             quilting and weaving.                

Fabric- Other   Items in this category can be made of any material and are to be sewn. Examples include infant, child or adult clothing, stuffed animals, bags, etc.

Fiber- Knit

  1. Large article- afghan or bed cover
  2. Small article- clothing, doily, pillow, etc.

Fiber- Crochet

  1. Large article- afghan or bed cover
  2. Small article- clothing, doily, pillow, etc.

Fiber- Other   Examples include

Handspun yarn- must be a continuous 2-ounce skein with the materials used clearly labeled.

Felting- Needle felting (Using a sharp needle to turn wool roving into 3-D objects) or wet felting (the process of combining layers of wool roving and/or wool yarns into one flat piece of felt fabric).

Weaving- cloth only or wearable items such as a scarf, shawl, wrap, vest, etc.
